A STORY

I got to the station and waited nervously for the train to arrive. I was tired as I had got up very early that day. My plane had taken off at 5:00 a.m. to England and I couldn’t sleep on the flight.
I had been waiting for that day a long time and at last It was the day, the day I would meet my best friend.

She had been there for five months, so I missed her a lot. She was studying in Liverpool and my flight had to land in Widnes. I was going meet her in the train station and it there were only ten minutes left before I would see her again.

Afterwards I arrived to Liverpool I caught of somebody like her, and when I turned my head she was there. We rushed to hug each other. Sometime later we went to have lunch, and visit some well-known places there like St. Peter’s cathedral, Birkenhead Park,… and we took lot of photographs. I spent a fantastic week there and I would repeat in another five months.

Looking back now, I miss her a lot but I know she is enjoying the experience and learning new things and of course English, which is the most important.

DISNEY PRINCESS MOVIES EVOLUTION

Disney has evolved since the beginning and its main characters too. We all now that princesses are old-fashioned, but… what are the main differences between the old princesses and the new ones?

Disney old movies present the figure of the women with a passive personality. For example in the movies like Snow White, the princess is always helped by another one and she spends her time cleaning and doing the housework until someone rescues her. In those films their only goal in life is marring a charming prince. They don't know their identity and they don't show interest in knowing it. All the movies ended the same: the prince and the princes were happy forever. They get their stability when they get married. Some examples are: SnowWhite, Cinderella, the little Mermaid...

Vaiana (2016) is the opposite way. She is an example of women's role in the XXI century society, she trusts herself and her merits. She has a different goal in life that is not marring a prince and falling in love, she wants to save her tribe and fights to get what she wants. Vaiana doesn't need a fairy godmother who presses her for doing something, she is the owner of her live and doesn't need anyone to rescue her when she is in danger. She hasn't got any romantic interest and in the plot there's not a romantic goal. Vaiana gets her etability when she gets her goals.

It is a collection of 6 short stories, theme around food and drink. We read together 'Water of Wanting', where a scientist invents an additive that increases people's attraction to certain food. Then, we read in groups each of the other five stories:
- A bed and breakfast owner who is determined that  one of ther guests should try her famous 'Full English Breakfast'
- A young boy who learns to cook with the help of a great uncle and magic ingredients in 'Kung Fu spice'
- A Japanese master chef who must prepare his own last meal in 'Fugu'
- The effects of eating chocolate after a comet approaches the Earth in 'Changes'.

After reading the stories, students worked collaboratively and did a presentation based on each of the stories, just using pictures, and explained the stories to the rest of classmates. They also wrote down all the words which may be confusing or new,

In this post we include two presentations for each of the stores, given that we have two different classes.
