Lady of Shalott (II)

The second part of the task was to write a story based on the painting Lady of Shalott. Students were asked to use a wide variety of tenses, right connectors and the passive voice somehow.

Lady of Shalott (I) 

 My 4th ESO studens were also asked to write about the painting Lady of Shalott, by the the English artist John William Waterhouse. They wrote some presentations, including, too, information about the painting, a short biography of the author and some more paintings by the same artist. You can see a brief selection of the productions here.

The kiss (II)

Also inspired by the kiss (Il Bacio), by Francesco Hayez, my students were asked to do a powerpoint presentation. They had to analyse the picture, include other paintings by Hayez and write a short biography about the artist. You may see some of the works produced in this post.

Instead of producing a powerpoint presentations, some students decided to use other ICT tools such as Prezi. You may find one example clicking  here.

Far Away Thoughts

Far away thoughts is a picture by American artist Daniel Ridway Knight (1839-1924). He was born in Philadelphia and afterwards he became a pupul at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. later, he worked in the private sutido of Meissonier. Agter 1872 he lived in Grance, having a house and studio at Poissy on the Seine.

He painted peasant women out of doors with great popular success. he was awarded the silver medal and Cross of the Legion of Honor, Exposition Unverselle, Paris, 1889, and was made a knight of the Royal Order of Saint Michael of Bavaria in 1893. He also received the gold medal of honor from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia, 1893). (Source: wikipedia). 

As a writing practice, we gave each of the students in 4th ESO the same picture, a reproduction of Far away thoughts with the task 'A picture that speaks more than a thousand words. They had to write about 300 words and they could either describe the picture or decide a story around it.

Some of the stories were quite realistic while others were absolutely hilarious. In this post you can read some of them.

Whenever we go to the cinema, to the theatre, to a concert... we have an opinion about what we have experienced and seen or heard.
