Lady of Shalott (I)
My 4th ESO studens were also asked to write about the painting Lady of Shalott, by the the English artist John William Waterhouse. They wrote some presentations, including, too, information about the painting, a short biography of the author and some more paintings by the same artist. You can see a brief selection of the productions here.
The kiss (II)
Also inspired by the kiss (Il Bacio), by Francesco Hayez, my students were asked to do a powerpoint presentation. They had to analyse the picture, include other paintings by Hayez and write a short biography about the artist. You may see some of the works produced in this post.
Instead of producing a powerpoint presentations, some students decided to use other ICT tools such as Prezi. You may find one example clicking here.
Description of pictures
Alghough these days have changed a little bit our routines, we have come back to write, learn, listen and read.
Today, we are posting some texts written by 3rd ESO students where they describe pictures. Here, people are doing different things, so they have mainly used present continuous. They have also used expressions such as "at the bottom", "on the right" or "in the background".
We know lots of things from countries around us: the language they speak, interesting places to visit, typical food, etc.
On the other hand, we don't know many things about other farther countries. We have been investigating about far away contries, quite small some of them, but full of interesting things.
We have written some presentations about these countries. In the classroom, we have shown our classmates about them, so we can learn different things.
Here you can see a prezi presentation and below you'll find some powerpoint presentations.
Reviews
It's a good idea to read reviews about places we are going to visit. Later, we can decide if our experience is the same as the one some other people had before us.
In this post we have many different descriptions of places (Port Aventura has has a great success). Most of them had been good experiences, maybe because we went with the right people, maybe because the place is worth it.
We hope you can get some new ideas for your next holidays.
Population pyramids
Our country's population has changed a lot during the last 100 years, so we have decided to look for information and understand why those changes have taken place.
We have chosen a pyramid from the beginning of the 20th century, another one from mid century and the most recent one (2017-2019 approx).
This task is included in a series of activities related to CLIL. CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning and refers to teaching subjects such as science, history and geography to students through a foreign language.
Autumn
Nearly three weeks ago we started a new course. We have already finished our first lessons and we are preparing many different activities in our English classes.
First ESO students have been revising contents they have already achieved in primary school; second year students have revised important grammar structures; third ESO have learnt new vocabulary, useful to describe people's personalities and modal verbs; 4th year students have also revised grammar structures such as present perfect and present perfect continuous.
Apart from doing listening comprehension and producing written texts, though, we have already applied to exchange letters and emails witha school in Rome (Italy) and we really hope they want to become our 'penfriends'.
Needless to say, we are looking forward Halloween at the end of the month, so be patient and you'll soon see how we prepare this celebration.
